Neal Qualified at the RVC, he gained surgical experience initially in mixed practice and then equine practice in the south east before coming to Oakham as surgeon in 1998.

In 2004 he, along with William, founded Oakham Veterinary Hospital, Neal was responsible for the concept, planning and building of the new purpose built Hospital premises in 2005.

In parallel with the new hospital, Neal forged a long term partnership with the University of Nottingham's new School of Veterinary Science. Neal has helped to formulate the clinical teaching model at Nottingham, to create a traditional veterinary medicine teaching hospital within a successful private business. The result is a true partnership where University academics and specialists work alongside privately employed nurses, clinicians and specialists to provide a high quality clinical and teaching environment. In 2020, in order to secure the future of the business, he guided the transition to become part of the IVC group.

Neal has published a range of papers, contributed to text books and presented nationally and internationally on a range of subjects relevant to equine surgery and sports horse injuries.

Neal holds RCVS certificates in Equine practice and equine Surgery, and the ECVS diploma in Equine surgery. He is both a EVBS European and RCVS recognised Specialist in Equine surgery. He served as an RCVS examiner for 5 years and is an FEI official and treating vet as well as an Honorary Associate Professor in Equine Surgery at the University of Nottingham.

Neal is now hospital based, dividing his time between all aspects of equine surgery, referred cases and the management of performance horses at all levels.
